Power Supply Information: Duet 2
Duet is easily powered by any available USB port on your Mac in most applications. However, there may be scenarios where connecting the external AC power adaptor is required.
WARNING: These specifications are for the Duet 2 only! They do not apply to the Duet for iPad & Mac. Plugging in the wrong power supply can damage the device.
The Duet 2 uses a regulated power supply with the following specifications:
- Input: AC 100-240v, 50-60Hz (same unit can be used in U.S., Europe, and Asia)
- Output: DC 5V, 2 Amps (2000mA)
- Barrel Size: 2.1mm inside diameter x 5.5mm outside diameter
- Center Pin: Positive
Under normal conditions, the Duet 2 power supply is NOT needed. However, when drawing more power than the computer's USB bus can provide, a message will appear on Duet 2's OLED screen to connect the external power supply.
Here are the two factors contributing to increased power consumption that can trigger this message where connecting the external AC power adaptor is required:
- When you are using low-impedance headphones and your output volume is very high
- Phantom power use for some power-hungry condenser mics
