Updating Symphony MkII firmware via Dante
In this article, we will explain how to update the firmware of the Apogee Symphony I/O MkII via the Dante option card.
Symphony MkII units with Dante can update the chassis via Ethernet connected to the Dante Port.
Note: This method does not update PTHD only connection based Symphony MkII units such as the previous Pro Tools HD option card, or the current Pro Tools Plus option card.
To verify you have Dante as well, you can:
- Open the top panel and look for the red Brooklyn Module on the PTHD/Dante connection module. Only if the Brooklyn module is present can you update via Dante.
If you do not want to open the top panel, here's two other ways to check if you have Dante:
- Check if there's a cover over the Ethernet ports, as these cannot do Dante
- Connect an ethernet cable and check if the ethernet lights illuminate. If they illuminate then it can be updated via Dante
Please read through this article completely before starting your Symphony I/O MkII firmware update.
First open the Symphony I/O MkII Updater and select the Dante option:
Select Next and verify your Symphony I/O MkII is detected
If not, verify you have Symphony I/O MkII in Dante Audio Interface Mode:
You'll see yellow dots instead of green to indicate a firmware update is needed:
Click Update:
Once the progress bar has started, DO NOT power off the Symphony. This can take up to 10 minutes over Ethernet with Dante:
Once complete and you see the screen below, Power off the Symphony, wait a few seconds, then power it back on. This will initiate the firmware update on the modules themselves after it's been copied to the Symphony chassis:
After the Symphony powers back on, let it run until you see the main screen again. This can take 10 minutes or more to complete....> the more components that need updating the longer it will take.
You'll see it restart during this process!
