How to use any mic input on your Ensemble or Element as a Talkback mic with Pro Tools

Thanks to the Pro Tool Aux I/O feature, you can send a channel directly from Pro Tools into Apogee Control. Here is how to do it.

To view any of the images larger, right click on it and select "Open Image in New Tab

In ProTools, go to your I/O Setup ( Setup> I/O )

Select the OUTPUT tab.

Click on the Aux I/O… button.

You will see this - Click on OK.

You will then see this.

In the Output column. click / enable Pro Tools Audio Bridge 2-A and click OK.

You will now see this. Click OK to close the I/O Setup window.

Create a mono audio track and name it TALKBACK.

Select the Ensemble or Element input that you want to use for your Talkback MIC.

Set the Output of your TALKBACK track to Pro Tools Audio Bridge 2-A 1-2…

(sometimes this will show up at the bottom of the list)

Enable INPUT on your TALKBACK track.

In Apogee Control, make sure you can see your System Settings and…

…then select Pro Tools Audio Bridge 2-A 1-2…

from the Talkback Source pop up menu.

When the Talkback button is pressed, the Talkback Mic is then mixed in with the various Playback channels.

No matter which Talkback Destination you choose, you can - from any Mixer - 1, 2 or 3 bring the volume of those Playback channels up in that Mixer.

In this example, the Talkback Mic SOURCE is coming in from the Pro Tools Audio Bridge 2-A, and the Talkback Destination is Playback 3-4. Using Mixer 1 you can set the level of your DAW and your Talkback Mic independently.

This can be done with any combination of Mixers and Playback channels.
