In some cases, Symphony Desktop can successfully load older snapshots but fails to load newly created ones.
This article addresses a specific issue where Snapshots won't load, but also serves as a guide for updating the Symphony Desktop’s firmware.
If you are experiencing the Snapshots not loading issue, the fix is to Re-flash the current firmware — even if you’re already running the latest release.
At the time of this writing, the latest version is 1.20.18.
So if you’re already on 1.20.18 and still experiencing the “Can’t Load Snapshots” issue, re-flashing this same version will correct it.
If you are simply updating the firmware, make sure to save a Snapshot of your current settings. After the firmware is updated, default settings are loaded. Unfortunately, if you are fixing the “can’t load Snapshots” issue, any saved snapshot will be corrupt and unusable.
Start with a USB A drive / stick that is formatted as MS-DOS (FAT) aka FAT 32.
A USB stick is included with your Symphony Desktop and should already be formatted as MS-DOS (FAT)

However, if you have lost it or have used it for other purposes, no worries - you can use any USB stick as long as it is formatted properly.
Here is how to do that:
Insert the USB stick into your Mac - you may need to use an adapter that goes from USB A to USB C if your Mac was made after ~2020.
Something like this:

Open your Utilities folder - Command ⌘ + Shift ⇧ + U and launch the Disk Utility application.
You’ll need to set Disk Utility to “Show All Devices”

Select the “Root” External device - Make absolutely sure you have selected the USB stick and NOT your Internal drive and click on erase.

Give it a name and from the Format dropdown, select MS-DOS (FAT).

From the Scheme dropdown, select Master Boot Record.

When everything is set correctly, click Erase

After a few moments, you’ll see this.

Next, assuming that you have downloaded the latest software for the Symphony Desktop and un-zipped it, open the Apogee Control 2 DualPath.dmg and copy the SymphonyDesktopUpdate to the USB Stick.
Ideally, there shouldn’t be anything other than the SymphonyDesktopUpdate folder on the USB stick, mainly to avoid confusion.
Now insert the USB stick into the USB port on the back of the Symphony Desktop and from the home screen, tap the Gear icon in the upper left corner.

This brings you to the System Settings menus. There are 3 pages of System Settings, and you may see any one of the three pages, We are looking for Page 3.
SystemSettings 1 of 1

Swipe LEFT and you will see the next page.

Swipe LEFT again and you will see what we’re looking for, Page 3 of 3.
Tap the Update button.

Next you'll see this, tap the Check for Update button.

If you see this, your USB stick is not formatted correctly or the SymphonyDesktopUpdate folder is not at the root level, AKA it might be inside another folder.

If the USB stick is properly prepared, you will see this.

And then this. Tap Yes.

Next, the update starts…

And a progress bar will appear. This will take a little time.

Once the update is completed, the unit will reboot.
First you will see the screen turn light grey…

…And then the boot screen.

After the reboot, you can remove the USB stick AND you MUST unplug and replug (hot-plug) the USB cable going to your Mac. After a firmware update the Symphony Desktop will not be recognized until you unplug and replug the USB cable.
